The Not Writing Games Newsletter 12

Nothing but good causes and cool games in here I swear

Hey folks,

The horrors continue but guess what so do we.

I’m making a single-player card game and it’s crowdfunding tomorrow. How nuts is that? A few years ago I was sweating as I publsihed my first zines, now I’m making cards. Wild. Anyway it’s called Escape the Kronos. It’s a play-in-hand game that you can easily print at home or get your own deck. You turn and move cards to navigate the interior of a spaceship as you try to escape a terrifying alien. Takes moments to set up and minutes to play.

Every backer gets early access to the game. I’m also including a limited amount of TTRPG zine as add-ons. It’s my first card game so I’m kinda nervous but the game is mostly done so I’m kinda not? We’ll see how it goes. Also my first time funding with Backerkit.

Again, the horrors continue.

Y’all hear about Time Force? It’s a new TTRPG from the folks who published Slugblaster, The Wildsea, and CBR + PNK. The Kickstarter has a few days left and they’re struggling a bit to get across the finish line. Looks like a good game for one-shots and light hearted adventures about saving the world by travelling through time and space. Ray has done great work in the past and has supported my work more than a few times so please do check it out!

And finally y’all hear about colonialism? Sucks right? Again, horrors persisting. But the good news is that for as long as empire has existed, folks have fought against it. Like the folks in Kananky currently resisting French oppression. I’m part of the Kanaky Solidarity Bundle right now which runs until the end of the month. Here’s a run down from the bundle site:

Kanaky is a group of islands in the southwest Pacific. The Kanak people have been under french colonial rule since 1853. The french fight to retain control of Kanaky due to it’s rare metals and geo-strategic location.

In May 2024, the Kanak people began a pro-independence uprising. Since then they’ve faced increased violence and oppression from french loyalists'. This has lead to shortages of basic necessities'.

We’re raising money to help communities in Kanaky buy food & supplies.

Help support folks fighting for their rights and autonomy and get a bunch of TTRPG’s in return? What a deal.

That’s all from me this newsletter. Next one will be lucky 13. I wonder what I’ll be up to then?

Thanks again for caring about my work. I can’t do any of this without y’all.
